| Council Consideration of a Maintenance Agreement Which Allows the City to Add Hardware to Wyoming Department of Transportation's Traffic Signals Between Wyoming Department of Transportation and the City of Gillette at No Cost. |
| BACKGROUND: |
| For many years the City's traffic staff and the operators of the City's fire and ambulance vehicles have not had emergency pre-emption to speed up response time and provide additional safety as they travel across the City. This agreement is important so that if the City decides to setup a pre-emption for emergency vehicles a uniform seamless system can be used involving all traffic signals no matter who owns and maintains the signal. The agreement provides for use by the City's fire trucks and ambulance services and allows the City to decide when and if the City wants to continue with this system in the future, allowing the flexibility to include all the traffic signals within the City. The new traffic signal installed at Boxelder Road and Garner Lake Road provided for a pre-emption system and it is presently available. Without this agreement, if a system was installed for the area's traffic signals, those on the State's system would not operate or the system would be delayed, while waiting for a new agreement to be in place. |
| ACTUAL COST VS. BUDGET: |
| This agreement does not require payments by either party as part of this agreement. Any cost for the system will be determined as part of hardware cost of upgrading the existing signal systems when determined. |
| SUGGESTED MOTION: |
| I move for Approval of the Maintenance Agreement which allows the City to add hardware to WYDOT's traffic signals between WYDOT and the City of Gillette at no cost. |
