This project included installing a new traffic signal, curb ramps, and curb and gutter at the Boxelder/Garner Lake Road intersection. The work included many new upgrades that are not available on other signals in town. These upgrades include a signal controller and software compatible with WYDOT’s signals in Gillette, a signal detection system capable of detecting vehicles approaching the intersection which will lengthen the green time to reduce panic stopping and an emergency pre-emption emergency system that changes the signal before properly equipped emergency vehicles are heard by the drivers. The controller and software allows the signal technicians to be automatically notified of most problems and to review the problems before leaving to go to the intersection, saving time and providing safety. This traffic signal, as equipped, is state of the art equipment in today's functions, providing the ability to handle most of the upcoming changes in vehicles and traffic.

The WYDOT Project was for $739,520.00 which includes the City matching share.  The funding for this project was established using Gillette’s allocation of Urban Systems funding and the optional 1% Sales Tax in the Amount of $ 70,328.00. The breakdown of the funding is covered by the Urban systems fund at 90.49% with the City matching 1% Optional Sales tax at 9.51% of the cost.
