SUBJECT:
An Ordinance to Amend Portions of Section 11-10(C) (3) of the Gillette City Code to Extend the Snow Route on 6th Street to Gillette Avenue and to Enact Section 11-12 (h) of the Gillette City Code Concerning Parking on Driveways and Sidewalks.
BACKGROUND:
An ordinance has been prepared to amend the snow route ordinance to include 6th street from 4-J Road to Gillette Avenue as one of the streets that will be subject to a an on-street parking prohibition in the case of snow emergencies. 6th street has become a more important route since the construction of the Burma overpass and the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection with 4-J Road. The current version of the snow route ordinance includes 6th street between Burma Road and 4-J Road.

In conjunction with the extension of the snow route on  6th street between Burma Road and 4-J Road, this ordinance will increase parking flexibility on driveways. This second section of the ordinance will permit people to park cars and trucks on short driveways even if doing so means they will overhang the adjoining sidewalk somewhat. Shorter existing driveways are more common in the older part of town including along 6th street and allowing parking to overhang sidewalks will provide increased off-street parking alternatives to aid in implementing additional snow parking restrictions in this neighborhood.
