| Council Consideration of a Quote Award for the Gurley Overpass Maintenance Project to S&S Builders, LLC, in the Amount of $134,751.00. |
| BACKGROUND: |
|
The Gurley Overpass Maintenance Project will consist of sealing the entire deck to reduce the infiltration of potentially corrosive salts and moisture. The specified products are designed to seal the porous surface of the deck and to penetrate into the small cracks or joints that have developed, reducing the amount of salt and moisture that penetrates the reinforcing steel.
In 2010, a project was undertaken to replace the failed expansion joint at the midway point in the overpass, replace failed bearings that support the north half of the deck, repair some areas that were delaminating and spalling, and to overlay deck with a latex overlay and friction course. During the preparation of the deck for the overlay, significant deterioration of the concrete and reinforcement steel was discovered. After exposing the delaminated areas, repairing and replacing some of the exposed reinforcement steel, a silica fume overlay was placed. In the project closeout documents, HDR, Inc. recommended the deck be sealed within 3 to 5 years to protect the deck from potentially corrosive salts and moisture to prolong the life of the repairs to the 30 year old structure.
In order to complete the sealing project, we have allowed for a 12 day closure of the Overpass. The work is to be completed before October 5th.

S&S Builders has the lowest quote amount. S&S Builders performed the 2010 Gurley Overpass Repair, finishing the repairs within the time frame allotted. S&S Builders has also successfully completed many bridge deck repairs for the Wyoming Department of Transportation. S&S Builders is a local firm with its primary office located in Gillette. This project will be funded through the 1% Optional Sales Tax Account 201-10-05-419-70-47404. |
