| Council Consideration of a Memorandum of Understanding Between the Gillette Police Department and the Northern Wyoming Community College Police Department. |
| BACKGROUND: |
| A MOU has been negotiated between the City by way of the Police Department and the Gillette College through the Northern Wyoming Community College District Police Department to allow Campus Police Officers to issue citations for Gillette Municipal code violations and have them processed in the Municipal Court. The Gillette PD currently dispatches calls to the Campus Police. The Campus Police officers are Wyoming POST certified police officers meeting the same qualifications as Gillette Police Officers and Sheriff's Deputies. According to the terms of this MOU, the Campus Police will be able to write City Code tickets on the main campus of the Gillette College and at other locations within Gillette at official functions of the College, such as sporting events. The term of this MOU is the same as the term of the Chief of Police but it can be terminated earlier upon 180 days notice. The College will be responsible for all expenses and salary of its officer and be liable for his actions. |
