| Council Consideration of a Resolution to Authorize a Business Ready Community Grant and Loan Program Planning Grant Application for the Gillette Broadband Study by the City of Gillette to the Wyoming Business Council. |
| BACKGROUND: |
| The City and the Campbell County Economic Development Corporation are working together to apply for a Planning Grant from the Wyoming Business Council. The total amount of the project is $85,000 and the Campbell County Economic Development Corporation will provide the $35,000 local match. The City of Gillette Broadband Study will provide recommendations to the Gillette City Council to most efficiently encourage and promote fiber optic bandwidth development to support local business technology. The project will include an analysis of the City's fiber optic system, the need for fiber in industrial subdivisions within the industrial development area south of the City, as well as in the Energy Park Subdivision and will include a review and recommendations for how the the City works with independent entities to deploy fiber optic cables and to lease installed fibers. This last phase of the study should provide guidance about the range of roles that the City can undertake to help provide and/or encourage infrastructure that will allow businesses to increase their ability to leverage high speed broadband access and services. |
