SUBJECT:
An Ordinance to Prohibit Parking in the Alleys on Either Side of Gillette Avenue.
BACKGROUND:
This ordinance has been written to revise section 11-14 of the City Code to prohibit parking in the alleys on either side of Gillette Avenue between 1st Street and 7th street. This prohibition is contained within a new subsection (a) to the ordinance and the other two sections are renumbered (b) and (c). This ordinance was written to provide for easier access to the Gillette Avenue alleys during the Gillette Avenue project when the alleys will be used for detours and for commercial deliveries. Whole blocks of Gillette Avenue itself will be under construction and therefore not available for deliveries as the project is underway. This ordinance as written would make the alley parking prohibition permanent and in effect even after the construction is completed in an effort to improve travel on Gillette Avenue in general by encouraging commercial deliveries in the alleys at the rear of the businesses.
