Ordinance 2nd reading: 6/0 (Councilman Kuntz absent)
The purpose of the proposed ordinance is to recodify and revise Chapter 19 of the Gillette City Code involving the licensing and regulation of public transportation for hire. Chapter 19 was last revised in 1985. The proposed ordinance establishes new criteria for the issuance of a business license and driver's permit to operate taxicabs, limousines and other vehicles for hire within the City of Gillette. The proposed revisions also requires vehicles safety inspections, establishes prohibited conduct while on duty, establishes a means of identifying licensed businesses and permitted drivers, and establishes revised penalties for violations of Chapter 19. The new licenses are issued by the City Clerk with input from the Chief of Police. There is an appeals process, modeled on the process for Itinerant Merchant licenses, that can be used if licenses are denied. |
