SUBJECT: |
Council Consideration of a Resolution in Support of Preserving the Historical Name of Devils Tower. |
BACKGROUND: |
A Resolution has been prepared to support the continued use of the historical name Devils Tower for the Monument and the formation. On September 24, 1906, President Theodore Roosevelt recognized the unique attributes of Devils Tower by declaring it the first United States National Monument, protecting the Tower and adjacent land for posterity. The proposed change of name from “Devils Tower” to “Bear Lodge” and “Bear Lodge National Monument” will cause substantial confusion with the adjacent Bear Lodge Mountains, as well as the term “Bear Lodge” being used throughout the United States to identify many locations far and away from Northeastern, Wyoming. |
SUGGESTED MOTION: |
I move for the Approval of a Resolution in Support of Preserving the Historical Name of Devils Tower.
