The Veterans Day Parade Committee is requesting a parade permit for Wednesday, November 11th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. to honor all Veterans. Parade participants will line up in the parking lot located across from the American Legion. The parade will begin at Second Street and 4-J Road, proceeding east to Osborne Avenue. Parade participants will use First Street as a return route, proceeding west to the parking lot.
The Committee is once again requesting the City's assistance with barricades, street cleaning, snow removal (if needed), police escort, video taping the parade and placing parade announcements on GPA, along with announcements in the utility bills. The committee is also requesting the City participate in the parade with a float(s).
Planned activities will begin by placing flags on graves at 7:00 a.m., breakfast at the American Legion (8:00 a.m.), Memorial Ceremony (11:00 a.m.), Veterans Day Parade (1:00 p.m.), Collecting flags from the graves (4:00 p.m.), reception at the Legion Hall (6:00 p.m.), and a Veterans Day Dinner at Post Home (free to veterans and guest). There will be speeches, flag ceremony, rifle salute, and taps.
The Committee is also requesting permission to display fireworks at the conclusion of the Memorial Ceremony. GCC 14-11 states "The mayor may, at his discretion, permit the purchase of fireworks to any corporation, association, society or club, through any dealer, to be used at such special celebration as may be approved by the city. Such fireworks so purchased shall be used and displayed under such regulations as the city may prescribe."
