ITEM TABLED ON DECEMBER 6, 2016. An effort has been undertaken in the State of Wyoming to legalize marijuana for medicinal and recreational use within the State of Wyoming. The American Medical Association, the National Association of Drug Court Professional, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the National Sheriffs' Association and the White House have all stood in opposition to legalization.
Marijuana is currently illegal within the State of Wyoming, and has been maintained as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. Additionally, the City of Gillette has steadfastly supported strategies for the prevention, education and treatment of substance abuse in our community, including the use of marijuana.
The City of Gillette has been asked by the organizations stated above to support the continued opposition to the legalization of marijuana in the State of Wyoming.
