Life Saving Award to Christine Stegman (Council in Front of the Dais) |
| BACKGROUND: |
| Officer Stegman was dispatched to an EMS Assist on 01202017 where it was reported 2 month old, Sawyer Swaney, was not breathing. Upon arrival, Officer Stegman observed Sawyer to be blue in the face, his chest hard and he was not breathing. Officer Stegman started chest compressions at which point Sawyer begin to cough and appeared he was choking on something. She cleared his mouth with her pinky finger and began delivering back flows with the palm of her right hand. Sawyer began to have mucus bubbles emerge from his nose. Officer Stegman requested the mother, Miranda, get a nasal aspirator and she complied. Sawyer stopped breathing a second time and Officer Stegman continued back blows while Miranda sucked the mucus from his nose. Sawyer immediately began breathing and starting crying. EMS arrived at that time and checked Sawyer's oxygen which was at 98% at that point. |
