Big Lost Meadery is hosting a curling tournament on January 20th. The closure will begin at 2:00 a.m. in order to build, and fill, the "ice arena". The group is working with the City's water department to identify the best way to provide water. When the event has ended, the ice will be plowed off the street and placed where snow is normally piled after the event. Engineering has reviewed and signed the application with the following remarks: "Street shall be returned to its original condition and any damage from the ice enclosure or ice removal will be the responsibility of the applicant."
The applicant has also obtained an open container permit for the event. The open container permit is from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. This will allow contestants as well as spectators, to purchase a drink/malt beverage from one of the participating establishments within the closure, and consume it out within the street closure area. Wrist bands will be used to identify those individuals 21 years of age or older.
The alley between Center Bar and Big Lost Meadery will be used as a thoroughfare for traffic. Because the closure is for such an extended timeframe, the applicant did not want to close the entire street section which could potentially interfere with parking for the other retail businesses on the block. |
