SUBJECT:
Council Consideration for the Acceptance of Public Improvements for the Parks Maintenance Facility Parking and Shelter Project, Installed by Van Ewing Construction, Inc., in the Amount of $251,387.87 (1% Project).
BACKGROUND:

With the completion of the new Fire Station #3 on Wenger Drive, the former Fire Station #3 at 800 Edwards Street became the new Parks Maintenance Facility.  The project included the replacement of the parking and driveway, the demolition of an old picnic shelter, and the installation of a new 30' by 40' picnic shelter.  Additional parking was configured to facilitate the use of the new picnic shelter, provide ADA access, and to access the Dalbey Park pathway.

Project Award

The project was bid with an asphalt paving or concrete paving alternative and an add alternate for additional landscaping along the west side of the facility.  Van Ewing provided the lowest responsive bid.  The alternate for asphaltic concrete paving was less expensive than the Portland concrete paving option and therefore was awarded on that basis.  The additive alternate for the additional landscaping would have caused the award to exceed the budget for the project and therefore was not awarded.  The project was awarded to Van Ewing Construction Inc. in the amount of $260,060.43.

ACTUAL COST VS. BUDGET:

There was one deductive change order in the amount of $8,672.56 to reconcile the final quantities for the project.

The awarded contract amount for this project was $260,060.43.  With the deduction of $8,672.56, the final contract amount of $251,387.87.

This project was funded through the 1% Optional Sales Tax Account 201-10-05149-70-47311.
