The South Plant Control Building and Garage is a masonry block building that was originally constructed in the 1970's. The existing paint on the exterior of the building is spalling and deteriorating. The building was originally used as the primary control building for the Wastewater Treatment Facility. The building is currently being used for storage of vehicles and equipment.
In 2012, the north side of the building was coated with Dri-Vit brand masonry coating. The rest of the building was not done at that time. Within the 2017/18 Wastewater Operations Budget, the City Council has approved $44,000.00 to finish the coating project for this building.
The City received a quote last year from a local contractor for budget preparation purposes. The local contractor that provided the quote last year no longer does this type of work.
In the Fall of 2017, the City of Gillette solicited competitive bids for completing the coating for this building. At that time, we did not receive any bids from interested contractors.
We recently received a quote from Kumelos Design & Construction in the amount of $60,624.00 to perform the work. The Quote is $16,624.00 more than the budget amount. The difference will be included in the next Budget Amendment.
