SUBJECT:
A Proclamation Designating Friday, April 26, 2019, as the City of Gillette’s Official Arbor Day - Wendy Clements
BACKGROUND:
The City of Gillette will observe Arbor Day on April 26, 2019, the last Friday in April, along with National Arbor Day.  This year also marks the 27th year that the City of Gillette has achieved Tree City USA designation from the Arbor Day Foundation.  This year, the annual Arbor Day Celebration will be held with the second graders at Stocktrail School.  In Spring of 2015, the Forestry Division helped transplant many trees from the site to City Parks during the school rebuild.  In Fall of 2018, the Forestry Division returned to the school and gave a hands-on presentation to the second grade as part of the Community Helpers curriculum standard.  For Arbor Day, we will return to Stocktrail school to transplant a Bur Oak tree with the same second grade class.

SUGGESTED MOTION:
Now therefore, I, Louise Carter-King, Mayor of the City of Gillette, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 26th as Arbor Day in the City of Gillette, and call upon all citizens to support efforts to protect our trees and support our City’s Urban Forestry program; and further, I urge all citizens to plant and care for trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations.
